LINE CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE

Line crew in the process of adding static protection to an existing  distribution line. This line was having lightning damage every year causing the customer interruptions in their Wastewater Treatment Facility and Barge Unloading as well as damaged poles, cross members, insulators, fused cutouts and lightning arrestors. The addition of the static line has eliminated these problems for the past two years.

There were other key elements to this installation that helped minimize the effect of lightning hits. The use of station class arrestors along with ground enhancement materials reduces the chance of flashovers due to poorly grounded systems.
